Ranch/Farm General Labor, Groundskeeper, Maintenance, Machine Operator
SILVER MAPLE RANCH OPERATIONS ASSISTANT
Nestled in the rolling hills of northwest Illinois, along the Mississippi River, Silver Maple Ranch is seeking a Ranch Operations Assistant to live on-site and join a small team of people who are highly dedicated to this family-owned, 1,235-acre ranch, its animals and stewardship of the land. Main responsibilities include:
- Daily chores (caring for animals, tending to gardens, cleaning swimming pool, etc.)
- General farm labor (fencing, pasture maintenance, clearing brush)
- Lawn care and landscaping (mowing, trimming, seeding, watering, planting)
- Maintenance/repair work on buildings and machines
- Occasional help with the ranch's 15 horses and 150 beef cows
Required: Communicate effectively in English, driver's license, able to work with minimal supervision, able to lift 60 pounds repetitively, desire to work hard and see results.
Desired: Knowledge of auto mechanics, machine and building maintenance, welding, ability to safely use electric and gas-powered tools, experience running loader tractors and riding mowers, comfortable around livestock, basic knowledge of planting and maintaining gardens. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Enthusiasm, flexibility and excellent work ethic are more important than direct experience, and Silver Maple Ranch will happily invest training time for the right individual.
Benefits: Competitive wage, on-site family housing, paid vacation, use of land and facilities at Manager's discretion. 5-day, 40-hour work week will include some weekends during the summer. 30 minutes from historic Galena, Illinois. 3 hours from Chicago. Excellent school system. This is a perfect job for someone who loves to be surrounded by nature, animals and fresh air.
Starts April 1, 2015. In addition, there may be a part-time housekeeping job available during the summer for a second person.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
